In the last yr, we at Sprout Social have raised exponentially as a workforce— we considerably grew our team and acquired Merely Measured , an industry leader within social analytics. It’ s already been pretty rapid change.
Knowing how crucial it is for workers to recognize themselves in our company’ t values, and understanding how much we’ ve grown since our ideals were developed in 2010, the time was right to give our ideals a refresh.

How It Started
From the outset, we understood the process of refreshing our values would have to be driven by the team at large. To include a diverse set of perspectives, everybody needs to have a voice.
We started the process by delivering an open invitation to the entire group to participate, and we were impressed by the response. From employees that joined a few months ago to people who had been along with Sprout since the beginning, our volunteers included individual contributors, managers plus leaders from across the organization.
To kick off our idea, we identified a working group of regarding 15 members who led smaller sized, department-based focus groups with all of the individuals from their teams. It was important to all of us that this process didn’ t start with our executive team making phone calls from the top down— instead, our own employees led the charge simply by collaborating on ideals they discover to be the most vital to what can make Sprout’ s culture successful.
With hundreds of ideas jotted down on post-its, there was a palpable excitement about everyone coming jointly to share their vision for the following evolution of Sprout’ s beliefs.
Open Communication & Creating Progress
After we whittled down our ideas, we started to get to the heart of what we should stand for as an organization. Building from the momentum of the first phase, the particular working group took our learnings from the focus groups and ongoing the ideation process. We centered on identifying themes and discussing the near future these values would lead Develop toward.
We weren’ t solely focused on what everybody loves about our company; instead, we all used this process to spark the broader conversation and constructively deal with the things we can do better. The Small Authorities
Finally, our ideals working group presented the styles we’ d developed to our professional team, the Small Council. And indeed, they borrowed their name through “ Game of Thrones. ”

Some of these are things we all aspire to do better, some are items we know we have room to improve. Whilst authentic in that we live these types of values today, we can always learn better, and we should be striving to constantly do better in living in service of such values. ”
In the lot of ways, that process alone represents where we landed— resolving hard problems, always opening up conversation, championing diverse input and simply qualified.
This process wasn’ big t easy, but it was worth time and the commitment of our people to have it right. Sprout’ s story could see several iterations of these standards within the years to come, but as we continue to develop, so will our commitment.
